| Artist Statement: “I create clay portraits of people and turn them into gods and goddesses, devas, sirens – visages of myth and magic. I make dragons, some vegetarian eating peas and carrots, while others dine of fish. The fish series began when I cast a flounder and some pogies to use as mold shapes. A school emerged, beautifully patterned and colorfully glazed – no two alike. Sea horses appeared, then turtles, and horse shoe crabs, and of course, sexy mermaids. I am a RI School of Design graduate with a degree in ceramics. In 2006, the Newport Art Museum hosted a retrospective of my work titled “Vintage Jillian.” I am a member of the Art League of RI and am an active member of many art associations. I am represented by the Jamestown Gallery, and the Charlestown Gallery.” |
